1. Run the Pope Tech Accessibility Dashboard in Canvas courses, focusing first on courses being taught during winter and spring, noting that the DOJ ruling goes into effect (4/25/26).
    • Find: The Accessibility Dashboard is in the navigation of each Canvas course. You can run the Dashboard in current and past courses, but make changes in newly imported, editable course(s).
    • Scan: Scan your course using the Pope Tech Accessibility Dashboard
    • “Errors” First: Use the Accessibility Guide to view what remediations to focus on first, prioritizing Links, Lists, Alt Text, Tables, Colors, and Headings, as well as Captions where possible. LLATCH gives you a simple, prioritized workflow for improving accessibility:
      • L – Links: Use meaningful, descriptive link text
      • L – Lists: Ensure lists are formatted using true list structures
      • A – Alt Text: Provide concise description as alt text for images (WWU DATG from WebTech may assist in creating this)
      • T – Tables: Use table headers and avoid using tables for layout purposes
      • C – Color & Contrast: Ensure readable color contrast
      • H – Headings: Structure your page using true heading levels (in Canvas page title becomes H1, but each page should continue structure starting with H2)

    • Examine Linked Content: While Pope Tech’s tools can be used to guide you to  Canvas content pages, it cannot point out accessibility issues in content that was not created in Canvas.
      • Internal Files: The scan will let you know when you have a file that needs to be reviewed outside of the Accessibility Guide tool, such as PDFs.
      • External Content: The scan will indicate there is external content for you to examine, such as YouTube videos, or Google Docs.
  2. Assess “Alerts” and remaining course materials not meeting accessibility expectations. This includes:
  3. Document additional concerns that arise with using external content or with content that is difficult to make accessible.
